Category:Economical diagrams I believe it would be better English to change all the "Economical ..." and "Economics ..." subcategories to "Economic ..." Since there are so many images to move, it would be nice if a bot could do it. It should be "Economic diagrams" It is correctly categorized under "Economics". Also, the other subcategories should be: Economic block diagrams Economic bar charts Economic graphs Economic pie charts There may be more subcategories at deeper levels that need to be changed. --Timeshifter (talk) 08:26, 16 July 2008 (UTC) Thanks for this proposal. I think this needs some considerable consideration. The existing main category here was named Category:Economics diagrams I created a new category Category:Economical diagrams ... and now Timeshifter proposes the name Category:Economic diagrams Now I doesn't matter so much how the categories are named as long as there is one standard. I based my choice on the existing categories in Category:Diagrams, charts, graphs by theme on categories ending with ...cal: like the category Mathematical diagrams, Medical diagrams and Technical diagrams. But I admit there are other naming conventions here: on categories ending with ...s: like , Physics diagrams, Sports diagrams and categories without and ending, like: Astronomy diagrams, Biology diagrams, Chemistry diagrams. So there are three kinds of naming conventions here. The English language has many inconsistencies. My suggestions in this category-for-discussion page only have to do with correcting English usage, and not about your ideas for categorization. Theory and practice

Hi, I am reorganizing the categorization of diagrams, charts and graphs in the sciences categories.

Now I moved all graphs from the Category:Economics diagrams to this category, because I want to make a difference between:

• Diagrams: like block diagrams... etc.,
• Charts: like bar charts, pie charts... etc, and
• Graphs.

Now I noticed that there are a lot of graphs in the field of economy. I noticed two particular types here:

• Graphs that represent a theory
• Graphs that show some statistical data

I wonder if we could make a difference here, for example by creating a separate Category:Economic statistical charts category. This will give an opportunity to make some further differentation here.

I suggest you go ahead and do what you feel is right. We can correct mistakes later. Such as English spelling, grammar, etc.. Category:Economic charts means the same thing, and makes more grammatical sense though than Category:Economic statistical charts. I like this:

• Category:Economic diagrams, charts, graphs - parent category.

Subcategories:

• Category:Economic diagrams
• Category:Economic charts
• Category:Economic graphs

Names new subcategories?

I suggest making a subcategory for demand supply graphs, but what should I actually call it? Demand and supply curves, is it too long? Likewise I would like to create a subcategory for IS curves. Any suggestions, ideas, opinions? Solbris (talk) 19:12, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Here you go: Category:Supply and demand curves. Normally, in English it is called "supply and demand" and not "demand and supply." See: en:Supply and demand and this Google search:

I haven't studied IS curves. I found this: en:IS/LM model and en:Category:Economics curves. You might use them to help pick some more category names for the Commons.

Merge with Economic diagrams

By view of the three categories Economic charts, Economic graphs and Economic diagrams, they mostly represent the identical idea and reflect a rather stunning triplication of material that can altogether be in one economic inphographic parent, such as Category:Economic diagrams – which can inclusively host items named "chart", "graph" and "diagram". The plentiful individual images in the three cats give the strong impression that dumping them in either of the three parents was more random than anything else and that there's nil gain in continuing this non-maintained split structure.
