By country[edit]

Whereas Category:Palestine is itself not listd (and hasn't ever been listd) on the Commons project as a Country, sub-categories of Palestine speaking to the geographic, historic, cultural and the like aspects of the Palestinian People don't usually merit the "by-country" tagging which draws to established nations (i.e. Category:Middle Eastern countries, Category:Countries of Africa etc.), and in this manner one may categorize as "by country" only items of the Palestinian territories, which gives a solution to the absence of any political state tagging of the Region of Palestine. We must first settle whether these cats relate to the Palestinian territories (= West Bank and Gaza Strip) or to the greater ancient region which then isn't identified as a Palestinian country. to broaden on this topic read Jordan, Israel, Egypt and Palestinian territories. Atlas of Palestine on the Commons lists it as a state. As does en:Palestine. Maybe need a category for "Country recognized by approximately two-thirds of the world's countries." That is what the Wikipedia article says. But most people think of Palestinian culture as being something with long roots going back centuries, and covering a wider area than the Palestinian territories. There are similarities to Kurdish culture. See Category:Culture of Kurdish people. So I suggest "See also" links from Category:Culture by country. See also Category:Cultures, en:Category:Cultures, and en:Category:Culture by ethnicity. --Timeshifter (talk) 05:56, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I keep wondering about the very tendentious categorisations. On one hand, Palestine is seen as the historic region, keeping it as far as possible away from the by country categories (while not correcting the country cats from the Palestinian territories), on the other hand, there are no relations in the categories with Israel that forms part of the Palestinian region. --Foroa (talk) 06:29, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In the mean time, I will tag all Palestine main categories as "by country" category unless there is a "Palestinian territory" subcat. --Foroa (talk) 06:35, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I see what you are doing: Category:Culture of the Palestinian territories. --Timeshifter (talk) 21:09, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Support rename proposal to "Palestinian culture" Orrlingtalk 00:09, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Support. Per discussion at Category talk:Palestinian culture and Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Undiscussed_Siebot move initiated by_Foroa. Category:Palestinian_culture. --Timeshifter (talk) 01:10, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Commons naming convention is "topic of ..." and corresponds to its parent category. --Foroa (talk) 06:28, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
En:Palistinian culture concerns a nation as one can see in en:Category:Culture by nationality which uses quite different naming standards than Category:Culture by country. --Foroa (talk) 07:38, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There are exceptions to many standards. For example; Category:Cultures. There are accepted exceptions to various common standards throughout the Commons. Those exceptions are part of the standard. Also, you have participated very little in the discussion at Category talk:Palestinian culture, and Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Undiscussed_Siebot move initiated by_Foroa. Category:Palestinian_culture. --Timeshifter (talk) 08:48, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
