Too many subcats[edit]

While using Cat-a-lot I ran into its 50 subcat limit. Clearly this category goes far over, with all its buildings. Though the limit can be relaxed (Commons:Cat-a-lot#Making_Cat-A-Lot_loading_more_than_50_subcategories) I propose geographic subcats with Canal Street as the first cutting point, followed probably by 14, 57, and 110. Any dissenters or further suggestions? Jim.henderson (talk) 12:21, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've had the same thought a couple of times, but never had the burst of energy to start the project. We should probably use the same divisions as used in the NYC landmark and NRHS cats, which are as you listed (except 59th, not 57th). Beyond My Ken (talk) 16:51, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I've mentioned this in the past, but I created a subcategory for Broadway between the Trans Manhattan Expressway and the Bronx-Yonkers border called Category:U.S. Route 9 on Broadway in New York City, which itself is a subcategory of Category:U.S. Route 9 in New York City, and even that was a subcategory of Category:U.S. Route 9 in New York (state). So I killed to birds with one stone with those moves. ----DanTD (talk) 21:30, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
