@Garcia1865: You uploaded photos into this category with copyright rationale {{PD-not-renewed}}. This seems plausible to me. Can you say more about where the photos were published and how you determined that this copyright rationale applies to them?

Someone affiliated with the Bob Mizer Foundation had approached Wikipedia years ago and tried to negotiate some kind of photo donation into Wikipedia. Have you had any contact with that foundation or effort? Thanks, this is a great collection if it checks out as it seems. Blue Rasberry (talk) 00:13, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Blueraspberry. When I uploaded the files in February, I put the {{PD-not-renewed}} because that was my initial understanding of the files' status, but I now think the tag might need to be amended. The photographs are from the Taschen collection, which stated, "Mizer did not include copyright notices in issues published between 1951 and the late 1970s, likely because the contents would have been deemed obscene by the U.S. Copyright Office."[1] On the Physique Pictorial page, it states, "Because of this, issues published before 1978 that lacked copyright notices as required by the U.S. copyright law at the time, immediately entered the public domain when published."[2] The files uploaded here are only from that span of 1951 to 1978.

@Garcia1865: Okay, then without a copyright notice, anything published between 1926-77 should instead have {{PD-US-no notice}}, and anything published 1978-89 and not renewed should have {{PD-US-1978-89}}. Just looking at a few of these, they seem to be in 1950s. Do they all need to be checked to see if any of them are from 1978 or later? And what do you think - do they need that copyright license rationale switched from "not renewed" to "never had copyright due to lack of registration"? I put your references with your comment as refactoring for readability; I expect that you will not mind but excuse my touching your text. I was looking for sources of these publications and I found that another user uploaded some entire original texts which came from en:JD Doyle archives, perhaps through their storage at the United States Library of Congress. I am sharing this because I wanted to consider how we could verify copyright and acquire high resolution copies. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:11, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
