Category:Works[edit]

This category and Category:Artificial objects are not clearly distinct. Are there Category:Works that are not Category:Artificial objects, or Category:Artificial objects that are not Category:Works? How do we draw a practical objective line here? Josh (talk) 21:49, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think the question might also depend on whether each work is an (artificial) object. And I do not think so. There are works that I would not consider an object (a thing that you can grab and lift), like (infra)structural works and reclamation of land. But I agree that if you talk about objects only, there is no clear distinction between Works and Artificial objects. Therefor I would like to propose to merge Category:Artificial objects into Category:Works. JopkeB (talk) 11:25, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to me that this is and Category:Artificial objects are so general that it's pointless to have either category. 99% of what's on here is a "work" and an "artificial object." Also, if you look through Category:Works by subject a lot of the subcategories are nonsensical and come off like people just put random things in them to justify the category scheme. Like Category:Works about villains has Category:Supervillain fiction‎ in it, which is completely random and is already in more descriptive categories like . There's no reason to have it or anything else in a random "works" category. Aside from that the word "work" has multiple meanings that have nothing to do with what is in the category anyway. Except someone does "work' to make a supervillain fiction, but that's not a meaningful thing to have a category structure built around. As a side to that, any time a category is centered around a single worded, broad philosophical topic you've kind of lost the plot, users, and the point in categories. Literally no one is going to be looking for supervillain fiction by way of searching for "works" and then going through this category structure to get to it. --Adamant1 (talk) 10:19, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
