English: Housebooks of Nuremberg (also called The Twelve Brethren books) who provided housing for impoverished (male) artisans in the Free Imperial City of Nuremberg. The books contain portraits of these artisans at work, as well as portraits and coats of arms of the founders and supervisors of the foundations. The Mendel book, volume II, contains also some portraits of (female) cooks and janitors of the Mendel foundation. There were two different foundations Mendel (1388-1806) and Landauer (1511-1806). In total, five volumes are stored in the City Library.

Français : Livres des Maisons de Nuremberg (également appelés Livres des douze frères). Ces maisons (hospices) avaient vocation à accueillir les artisans appauvris de cette ville libre d'Empire. Les livres représentent principalement les artisans en activité. On y trouve aussi les blasons et portraits de leurs fondateurs ainsi que quelques portraits féminins (cuisinières et concierges dans le volume second de la maison Mendel). Deux maisons différentes ont coexisté au cours des siècles : la Maison Mendel (1388-1806) et la Maison Landauer (1511-1806) . Au total ce sont cinq volumes qui sont archivés dans la bibliothèque municipale.
