The William Trinkle Hotel was a 17-unit motel located at the southeast corner of Cedar Crest Boulevard and Tilghman Street. It opened in 1947, and was the first motel in Allentown, in which travelling families could have their car parked next to their room. At the time, Tilghman Street was US Route 22 and was a heavily traveled transit route between Harrisburg and Allentown. The motel included a coffee shop, restaurant, cocktail lounge and a golf driving range. William Trinkle passed in November 1971. His wife, Emma Trinkle, who was a co-partner in the hotel and its operation, passed in August 1973.

In 1977, the land was sold to developers who proposed a shopping center complex called "Village West" on the land. This complex was in litigation for several years until it was finally approved in August 1980. Construction began in February 1982 on the property and the shopping center opened in November of that year.
