Contemporary Biographies, by W.T. Pike, including "London at the opening of the Twentieth Century". (Pike's New Century Series no.15). Published in 1905 by W.T. Pike & Co., 19 Grand Parade, Brighton.

The volumes in this series each contain an illustrated section about the county, followed by a list of short biographies (each with a photographic portrait) of men of the county who were alive at the time of publication (plus a few who had recently died). Each volume has an index to the illustrations of buildings and views of the county, and an index to the biographies. The London volume was available to subscribers as sections of the whole: one section covers bureaucrats: actuaries and insurance, accountants, and secretaries.

Note: all photographs of original 1905 volumes in this category, which were uploaded by Storye Book, were taken with a handheld camera. This century-old volume will not tolerate compression of its spine in the scanner. (Reprints are scanned).
