English: The iron barque Victoria Cross was built in 1863 by Pile, Spence & Co at Hartlepool for Coupland Bros., Liverpool. Registered at 1,262 tons gross, she measured 218 ft (66.4 m) long, 37 ft (11.2 m) beam and 23 ft (701 cm) depth. She originally had a full ship-rig before being cut down to a barque to save on crewing costs. After service with several owners, she disappears from record in the mid-1880s. 1889 sold to J.H.Nicolai, Brake, Germany and renamed Auguste. Wrecked c. 1900 at Atherfield Lodge, Isle of Wight.[1][2]
