Description
English: A 2.5 tonne bronze free-form statue officially named Three-Way Piece No. 2, but known by most as the Archer. City Hall architect Viljo Revell asked the British sculptor, Henry Moore, to design and create a statue that would complement the flowing lines of City Hall. Although funds had been set aside for artwork in Nathan Phillips Square, public controversy in 1960s Toronto greeted Moore's abstract design. After the sculpture was refused by City Council, Mayor Phillip Givens raised the $100,000 needed to purchase the Archer through private donations. The Archer was installed in in front of City Hall in 1966.
