English: Thor II was an iron-hulled four-masted ship, built by Russell & Co, Port Glasgow in 1886 as Nile for A. Brown, Glasgow. She was a full rigged ship. Dimensions: 86,37×12,31×7,46 meters [283'5"×40'5"×24'6"]. Tonnages 2,163 GRT, 2,079 NRT, and 1,984 tons under deck. The forecastle was 36 ft long and the poop 36 ft. Rigged with royal sails over double top and single topgallant sails. 1911 sold to Norwegian owners, renamed Thor II and reduced to a barque rig. In the German U-boat U-45 sanke her by torpedo, 80 miles SW of the Irish coast on voyage from South Georgia to Queenstown with a cargo of whale oil.[1][2][3]
