English: The Wool House, Southampton is a grade I listed building. The wool trade was the basis of Southampton's prosperity in the Middle Ages and, dating from the C14th, this building was used to store wool before export to Venice and Genoa. During the Napoleonic Wars the building was used to hold French prisoners of war and some of their names can be seen carved on the roof timbers. The building was restored and opened as a maritime museum in 1966.
