The Tower at Montauk, formerly the Carl Fisher Office Building and the Montauk Improvement Building, in the hamlet of Montauk in the town of East Hampton, Suffolk County, New York was built by Carl G. Fisher as part of his project to make Montauk the Miami Beach of the north. Fisher maintained the penthouse as his private residence. After Fisher's project collapsed because of the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the Great Depresion, the building fell into disrepair. For a time it was used as the headquarters of the Montauk Improvement Company, but was later abandoned. The six-story building remains East Hampton's tallest occupied building, as zoning ordinances restrict the heights of new buildings. Since c.1982, the building has been a residential condominium.
