Ted and Helen Claxton were Edgar "Ted" Claxton and Nellie Mildred "Helen" Claxton of London, England, both born in 1883. They corresponded by postcard in 1904 and 1905 while courting, using their own private cipher. They married in 1908, and their son Edgar Claxton was born in 1910 and later became an engineer. Ted Claxton was a settlement officer, and a registrar for births and deaths. Helen was a music teacher, and pianist for the local choir. Note that during the 19th and 20th centuries in the UK, a stamp affixed at a 45-degree angle represented a kiss.

The known provenance of these cards is that they were acquired at a jumble sale in the early 1990s in Hounslow, London. The basis of the code was cracked soon after, but the cards were in storage until 2020 when the main decryption began. 50 encoded postcards have been found so far, and all have been decrypted and checked. All of that jumble sale batch has been uploaded here. As of December 2020, we only have code written by Helen, but code written by Ted does exist (as yet unseen by your decryptors). 80 postcards written in English have also been found, and all of those are uploaded here. All of the pictures on the Claxton postcards are of historical interest. Storye book (talk) 13:14, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
