English: Staad Church, also named Staad Abbey or Teampall na Staide, located in the townland of Agharrow of County Sligo, served in medieval times as outpost of Inishmurray from where pilgrims could embark to the island. Despite the common name Staad Abbey there is no proof that this was ever a house of cloistered monks. The name Staad is derived from the Latin statio, meaning stage or station. See Gwynn and Hadcock: Religious Medieval Houses Ireland, p. 405; Killanin and Duignan: The Shell Guide to Ireland, London 1967, p. 303 (under the heading of Grange), and O'Sullivan and Ó Carragáin: Inishmurray: Monks and Pilgrims in an Atlantic Landscape, pp. 41, 347.
