Deutsch: Die ehem. Stiftskirche St. Wilhadi und Stephani. Die Kirche wurde um 1050 von Erzbischof Adalbert I. auf dem Steffensberg, einer Erhebung der Bremer Düne vor den Toren der Stadt, gegründet. Erzbischof Adalbert II. erhob sie 1139 zur Stifts- und Pfarrkirche. Zunächst trug sie den Namen St. Wilhadi und St. Stephani oder kurz St. Wilhadi, erst später setzte sich der Name St. Stephani durch. Erste Kriegsschäden am 20. Dezember 1943, weitgehende Zerstörung und Ausbrennen des Inneren am 18./19. August 1944, Februar 1945 Bomben verursachen Mauereinstürze, April 1945 Südturm beschädigt. 1948-1962 Wiederaufbau.
St. Stephani is a protected cultural monument in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen with the number 1172 registered with the State Office for Monument Preservation. → Datenbankeintrag
English: The former Collegiate Church of Saints Willehadus and Stephen. Around 1050 Archbishop Albert I founded the church outside of the then actual city on mount Steffensberg. Archbishop Albert II elevated it to a collegiate and parish church in 1139. Its two patron saints are St. Willehadus and St. Stephen, however, it used to be called St. Wilhadi in short, only later the name St. Stephani prevailed. On 20 December 1943 an air raid inflicted first damages, followed by far reaching destructions in the night between 18 and 19 August 1944 with burning of the complete interior, in February 1945 bombs crashed much of the wall structures, in April 1945 bombs damaged the southern tower. 1948-1962 reconstruction.
