English: The school was established as "The Ontario Institution for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb", by which name it was known from 1870 to 1912. It's name was changed to "The Ontario School for the Deaf", by which name it was known from 1913 to 1973, and again in 1974 to "The Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf", by which name it has been known since.
