In the 17 vaults of the substructure of the large terrace with its two churches there were probably market shops. Their base area covers approx. 4.90 x 3.60 to 3.90 m, and the height is about 3 m. The supporting wall of the terrace, the longitudinal walls of the rooms and the entire façade are made of basalt, while limestone was used for the barrel vaults. In the pendentives between the barrels, the masonry was reinforced with Opus Caementicium, a concrete-like substance (Roman concrete).
