English: St-Martin-s-Ouanne, Yonne, France. Old village wash house. A minor arm of the river Ouanne feeds the wash house basin before continuing its way to join with the main arm further downstream. The main arm of the river is on the other side of the wash house, with the particularity that it runs 3 ft below the secondary arm which was artificially set up a long time ago. Inquiries made, I cannot find anyone in the village remembering hearing of a time when it was not there. A 96-yr-old local old-timer said that his great-grand-mother had always used to do her washing there ; that takes it back to at least early XIXth century.

Une particularité de ce lavoir : le bras principal de l'Ouanne se trouve immédiatement de l'autre côté du lavoir, à 1 m en contrebas. Le bras secondaire montré ici est une dérivation artificielle installée de longue date. Un ancien du village dit que son arrière-grand-mère avait toujours lavé son linge ici, ce qui fait remonter le lavoir et son chenal d'alimentation artificiel au moins au début du XIXe siècle.
