English: SS. Peter and Paul's Church in Clonmel, Gladstone Street, was initially erected in 1810 as auxiliary church to St. Mary's, Irishtown, preparing the path to a separate parish which was founded in 1836 by Bishop William Abraham. A new church was designed in 1875 by J. J. O'Callaghan in the Romanesque style but constructed over a long period beginning from 1880 until the re-opening ceremony on 12 July 1908. Interior works continued and the nave as it appears now was mostly finished in 1917. The campanile was added in the period of 1926–1934 which required a rework of the nave at its southern end. Most of the work was done under the direction of the architects of Ashlin & Coleman. Consecration was on 7 July 1934. The church has a north-south alignment with the apsis in the north. The original high altar and pulpit were removed after VC II. (See Margaret Rossiter, Michael Ahern, Seán O‘Donnell, and Liam Ó Duibhir, The Parish of SS. Peter & Paul 1810–2010, ISBN 0-9554477-2-0; Jeremy Williams, Architecture in Ireland 1837–1921, p. 344.)
