English: This street is named after Carlos Cândido dos Reis (Born 16 January 1852 - Died 4 October 1910), who was an Admiral, commanding the Portuguese Navy and was a republican conspirator in the revolution of 1910. He was also a member of the Carbonari, a secret revolutionary society and international organization similar to Freemasonry. He committed suicide as a result of of a wrong assumption that the coup had failed.
