English: The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is the largest charity that save lives at sea around the British Isles (Great Britain, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) as well as on some inland waterways. It was founded in 1824 as the National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck and now operates more than 400 lifeboats and more than 230 stations. It also provides a lifeguard service at many beaches and has flood rescue teams that can be deployed at short notice.
