There are several locations in Maine known as "reversing falls." Typically these are places where submerged rocks in a river, cove, estuary, or similar body of water, hold back water at low tide, with just some water going over the top in a waterfall. However, the tide rises higher than the submerged rocks, creating a reverse waterfall at high tide. These locations are often popular with kayakers and canoeists.
