USCGC Sea Dog, Sea Devil, Sea Dragon and Sea Fox are owned by the US Navy, and are staffed, maintained and administered by the Coast Guard. The mission of these four vessels is to escort big nuclear submarines that surface as they enter shallow water to enter and exit port. Because the subs aren't armed with surface weapons the Navy has these small cutters protect them from suicide bombers in speed-boats. For this mission these four cutters are equipped with a pedestal, on the fore-deck, equipped with a remote controlled, gyro-stabilized machine gun. It is a fifty calibre, the same calibre as other vessels of this class, but those weapons are crew-served, and aimed using iron sights, making their long range accuracy inadequate for intercepting speed boats.
