Notes on the default filename scheme:

  • Example: Upper Dolpo - 115 (26296858517).jpg
    • Upper Dolpo currently is part of nearly all filenames (i.e. of the "unidentified" ones), but only some of the photos actually are from that area, so renaming of files (once identified) will make sense in many cases.
      Note: The Dolpo region can be subdivided into "Upper Dolpo" and "Lower Dolpo", but these are vague terms.
    • 115 is a consecutive number (from 1 to 1210, in correct order by time, it seems – which is helpful; only a few numbers have been omitted apparently).
    • 26296858517 is a sort of photo ID (part of the file's URL on flickr)
  • Suggestion: If you rename files, include the date (e.g. 2017-09-28), and keep the numbers.
    A good scheme for renames: Identified location, depicted object 2017-09-28 - 0115 (26296858517).jpg

Tips to identify locations:

  • Note the consecutive number in a filename (e.g. 115) in combination with given date information (file description, metadata/Exif).
  • Check the blog post (see above) for that date (specific day section), and compare maps, and other sources.
  • Checking related files from the same day might be very useful (see e.g. consecutive numbers 114 ←115→ 116 ...).
