English: The Pericles was a clipper ship built in 1877 by W.Hood & Co, Aberdeen as a wool clipper for the Aberdeen Line. The ship was 1,598 gross tons, with length 259.5ft x beam 39.3ft (79,10m x 12,00m), was a three masted, full rigged ship with iron hull and was launched in July 1877. Fitted with the latest improvements such as a donkey boiler and engine, steam condenser and steam windlass. Her maiden voyage was 71 days outward to Melbourne, and by 1886-7 she was no longer a wool clipper but a general cargo carrier and sailed home via India and the Pacific. In 1904 she was sold to Leif Gundersen, Porsgrund, Norway and was rigged as a barque. Owned by Pettersen and Ullenaess, Porsgrund in 1911 and sold to Christiansands Shipping Co in 1918 and renamed ‚Sjursjø‘. In Sep. 1923 she was scrapped at Kiel (Germany).[1][2]
