The pentagrammaton (Greek for "five letter name") is an esoteric spelling of the Hebrew name of Jesus - Yehoshua or Yeshua. It was developed in mystic/occult circles beginning around the late 16th century, and it is the Tetragrammaton YHWH with a Hebrew letter ש shin added in the middle of it — or יהשוה — resulting in a word similar to Yeheshua or Yashua. It is often used instead of the historic name of Jesus, ישוע (shortened from earlier יהושע), to explain certain spiritual ideas, especially in Christian Cabala, Hermetic Qabalah and Rosicrucianism.
