English: At least one company, SwissMicros, builds or has built calculators which strongly resemble - in terms of functionality and partly also physical appearance - popular 1980s/1990s Hewlett-Packard calculator models such as the HP-41CX, the HP-42S and the HP-15C, and which can be bought new in the 2020s. Further, there are different Open Source/Open Hardware projects where people have re-engineered and modified/extended parts of or the complete firmware of such devices. Some of these projects use current (as of 2024) calculator models from HP, into which an open source firmware/software with customized functionality is loaded. The new functionalities are typically accounted for and accessible by different variants of modified keyboard overlays/designs. Examples for such projects are the WP 31S, WP 34S and WP 34C all based on the HP 30b or HP 20b and the WP 43 (in different versions) based on the SwissMicros DM42.

Darüber hinaus gibt es verschiedene Open-Source-/Open-Hardware-Projekte, bei denen Teile oder die gesamte Firmware solcher Geräte neu entwickelt und/oder modifiziert und erweitert wurde. Einige dieser Projekte nutzen aktuelle (Stand 2024) Rechnermodelle von HP, in die eine Open-Source-Firmware/Software mit angepasster Funktionalität geladen wird. Die neuen Funktionen sind z.B. mit Hilfe eines modifizierten Tastatur-Overlays zugänglich. Beispiele dafür sind die Rechner WP 31S, WP 34S und WP 34C, alle HP-30b- oder HP 20b-basiert und der WP 43 (in mehreren Versionen) basierend auf dem SwissMicros DM42.
