English: The Neoplan N4016 was the first low-floor bus to enter service in the UK. Twelve were bought by MTL in Dec 1993/Feb 1994 and launched as the first Merseytravel 'SMART' bus service, wearing a special yellow/white/silver livery designed to showcase their modern design. The type remained unique in Britain, with other manufacturers moving into the emerging UK market for low-floor types (Arriva also bought three shorter N4009's, which also remained unique). The 12 buses remained with MTL, passing to Arriva North West and receiving standard Arriva colours in turn. 11 remained in service until 2008 when they were sold as a batch to a dealer. Three then saw further service with Tanat Valley Coaches.
