English: Personifications of Nature often represent her as a woman with many breasts wearing a veil. The multiple breasts are taken from the iconography of the form of the goddess Artemis worshiped at Ephesus, and the veil derives from a statue of Isis mentioned by Plutarch. This form of Nature is therefore often called Artemis or Isis. The veil represents the secrets of nature.
