Natsu-shōji (夏障子: "summer shōji") are shōji frames filled with reeds, straw, fine bamboo, other stalks and stems, mesh, etc.. This allows more airflow, but gives shade and obstructs sight.

Sudare-shōji (簾障子) belong here.
