Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre (1787-1851) was born in Cormeilles-en-Parisis. In 1883, an international subscription led to honor the co-inventor of photography with this monument in his birth town. The artist is Charles Romain Joseph Capellaro. The pedestal's inscription states : DAGUERRE/ARTISTE PEINTRE/INVENTEUR/DE LA/PHOTOGRAPHIE/NÉ LE 18 NOVEMBRE 1787/DÉCÉDÉ LE 10 JUILLET 1851/SOUSCRIPTION INTERNATIONALE/MDCCCLXXXIII. It is located by Saint-Martin church, in the Daguerre Square.
