This category contains military map symbol for a land units or formations. The diamond shaped frame was introduced in NATO's APP-6A standard to indicate hostile units, and the icons contained within are found in NATO or member nation doctrine. In some cases, icons that predate the APP-6A standard have been modified to fit the diamond frame. The colour red was identified in APP-6 to indicate hostile entities, and in APP-6A this bright red was specified for use in electronic display systems.

The icons in this category have been designed to be paired with many of the unit size icons at Category:Unit size indicators for tactical signs and map symbols of NATO to complete a full map symbol or tac sign, as illustrated here:
