Metal gutter bridges, sometimes called "gutter plates", were part of New Orleans street scape at the end of the 19th century, used for pedestrians to cross old style deep gutters. Some were cast or engraved with the name of the street. Some continue to exist in the early 21st century, the majority repurposed in different locations than originally.
