The Matangeshvara temple is an early 10th-century Shiva temple in Khajuraho that remains an active temple of Hindu worship. It has one of the largest historic Shiva lingam in north India – about 1 meter in diameter and about 2.5 meter tall.

The Matangeshwara temple stands on a platform, has two groups of steps to reach the antarala and square sanctum. The temple has plain outer walls, with artwork limited to framed niche. The sikhara is phamsana style, with an amalaka on the top. Below it is the lingam, one so large that the yoni pitha provides path for clockwise circumambulation. It is unclear how this lingam was made and installed in this temple in the 10th-century.
