  • Matadian, a 4,275 gross ton vegetable oil tanker, built in 1936 by Swan, Hunter& Wigham Richardson, Newcastle for the United Africa Co.
  • On 20.3.1944 she was torpedoed and sunk by U.66 in the Bight of Benin, while sailing independently from Port Harcourt and Lagos to the UK with a cargo of palm oil. The Master, Capt. C.G. Shorter, 38 crew and 8 gunners were rescued by HM Motor Launch ML282 and landed at Lagos.
