English: Marion Lightbody was a full-rigged four-masted steel ship[1] or a barque[2], built 1888 by D & W Henderson Ltd Glasgow (yard No 334), for Rogers & Co, Glasgow. The company was called the Marion Line after Marion Roger, wife of the owner Josiah Roger.[3]
Sold 1911 to Trinder, Anderson & Co, Glasgow. Sold 1912 to J. Tengström, Åbo, Finland. 1913 reduced to barque rig[1]. Sunk 1915 by a German U-boat near Fastnet Rock on voyage from Valparaiso to Queenstown. A British steamship rescued the crew.
Her dimensions were length × beam × depth: 288.8 × 42.7 × 24.1 ft (88 × 13 × 7.3 m) and her tonnages were 2,176 GRT and 2,127 NRT.[1][2]
