English: The Lynton was a four-masted steel barque built in 1894 by R.&J. Evans & Co., Liverpool for Johnston, Sproule & Co., Liverpool. 1899 sold to W. Montgomery & Co., London and 1907 to Th. A. Shute, Liverpool. 1914 sold to Robert Mattson, Mariehamn. Sunk 1917 by a German submarine off the south of Ireland.
Her dimensions were: length × beam × depth = 299.6 × 43.5 × 24.3 ft (91.3 × 13.2 × 7.4 m) and she had a tonage of: 2531 GRT and 2324 NRT. She was rigged with royal sails over double top and topgallant sails (Basil Lubbock says that she was rigged with double top, single topgallant sails, royal and skysails).[1]
