Les Conquêtes de l'Empereur de Chine is the result of a collaboration between Chinese Emperor Qianlong and European artists begun at the end of the reign of Louis XV, precisely in 1762. The Jesuit missionaries involved in producing 16 drawings in China were Giuseppe Castiglione, Jean-Denis Attiret, Ignace Sichelbart and Jean Damascene. As a reduction, 16 copperplates (4 + 12) were designed between 1766 and 1771 by Charles-Nicolas Cochin le fils (dir.), Jacques Aliamet, Jacques-Philippe Le Bas, Benoît-Louis Prévost and Augustin de Saint-Aubin. Each sheet is approximately 35¼ x 20¼ in. (89.5 x 51.5 cm.).

The hereby engravings were executed between 1772 and 1774 in Paris, as a complementary commission of 12 copperplates, under the direction of Cochin of the Académie royale at the Court of Louis XVI and the individual engravers are Choffard, Nicolas de Launay, Louis Joseph Masquelier, François Denis Née (Quelle : musée du Louvre, 2009).

Aside from the engravings, the Qianlong Emperor also had his court painters color paint the series based on the original drawings. See Category:Les Conquêtes de l'Empereur de Chine (color paintings) for the color paintings.
