English: The “Roc Castel” is the uptown of the village , Le Caylar, in the Department of Hérault, Languedoc-Roussillon region, of France. It owes its name to the cut rock, part of the old fort and of the old castle. “Roc Castel” is probably former than the construction of the castle built by the end of 11 th century to the late 12 th century, now ruined.
The castle chapel was constructed in the second half of 12 th century to the end of the 13 th century, for the bishops of Lodève. It became a parish church and was partly destroyed during the wars of religion (maybe in 1572 or in 1628). Its reconstruction dates from the early 18 th century.
