Français : Cette collection est un don de Pierre Maranda (1930-2015) qui a consacré sa vie à la recherche et à l’enseignement de l'anthropologie. Il a été professeur à l’Université Laval de 1975 à 1996. C’est au cours de son premier terrain ethnographique chez les Lau de Malaita, aux îles Salomon, que la plupart des objets de la collection ont été recueillis et que les photographies ont été prises. Avec son épouse, Elli Köngäs-Maranda (1932-1982), également anthropologue, il a vécu au sein de cette communauté de 1966 à 1968. Les objets de cette collection lui ont été donnés durant son séjour en terre malaitaine et représentent aujourd’hui une expression du patrimoine lau. Les photographies in situ sont une contribution du Musée de la civilisation et les photographies des objets sont une contribution de la Bibliothèque de l'Université Laval. (Les Lau de Malaita)
English: This collection is a gift from Pierre Maranda (1930-2015) who dedicated his life to research and teaching anthropology. He was a professor at Laval University from 1975 to 1996. It was during his first ethnographic fieldwork with the Lau of Malaita, in the Solomon Islands, that most of the objects in the collection were collected and that the photographs were taken. With his wife, Elli Köngäs-Maranda (1932-1982), also an anthropologist, he lived in this community from 1966 to 1968. The objects of this collection were given to him during his stay in Malaitan land and represent today an expression of Lau heritage. In situ photographs are a contribution from the Musée de la civilisation and the photographs of the objects are a contribution from the Laval University Library. (Les Lau de Malaita)
