Dorney's sister, and competitor amusement park Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania added a roller coaster with a 360-degree loop in 1977. Dorney took note of this and went one better with two loops. Designed in West Germany, the Colossus coaster was one of only two like it when it opened in 1986. It was located on the former Dorney Park Zoorama site, the Colossus dropped riders 90 feet at 50 mph before flipping them end over end twice. It was an instant hit with the park visitors.

In 1987, there was a naming dispute with another amusement park that it had a roller coaster name Colossus, so it was renamed "Lazer". Allentown's WAEB radio station joined with the new ride and for a while became "Laser 104.1" and created a matching logo.

In 1991, "Little Laser", a mini-coaster with fake loops was opened as a child-size companion to the full-size Lazer.

In 1997, the park added a laser light and sound show themed to the coaster that was projected onto a giant screen. The laser light spectacular continued nightly until 2001.

In 2008, the Lazer had outlived its life span, and the coaster was dismantled and removed. The Little Lazer was renamed "Steel First" in 2009, but removed in 2010 along with other kiddie rides to make way for "Stinger", a scorpion-themed suspended boomerang steel roller coaster.
