English: Khlong Prapa (water supply canal) is a canal in Bangkok Metropolis and Vicinity, Thailand. This canal was started to be dug in 1909 and completed in 1913. Beginning from canal Khlong Khang at Bang Phun Sub-District, Mueang Pathum Thani District, Pathum Thani Province, the canal runs in parallel with canal Khlong Prem Prachakon to reach Samsen Water Treatment Plant, the total length is about 30 km (18 mi). At the end of the canal at Samsen area, a watergate was equipped in order to be able to control the water flowing into canal Khlong Samsen. The canal was built from the intitiative of King Rama V who realized the need to provide hygienic potable water for the Bangkokian's consumption, as the water level of Chao Phraya River during the dry season was so low that the sea water could intrude deep inside, making the taste of drinking water salty and unsuitable for consumption. In 1980, the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority has extended Khlong Prapa up north till Wat Samlae temple of Pathum Thani Province, in order to be able to draw the water from Chao Phraya River directly.
