John P. Haran (1904-1981) was born on September 9, 1904 in Worcester, Massachusetts. He entered the Society of Jesus on August 22, 1922, and was ordained on June 20, 1934. He attended the College of the Holy Cross from 1921 to 1922. He then attended St. Andrew-on-Hudson seminary in Poughkeepsie, New York from 1922 to 1926. He attended Weston College from 1931 to 1935 and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy from 1936 to 1938 from his Ph.D. and Licentiate in Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) degrees. In 1938 he completed his dissertation titled: Dissertatio Ad Lauream, In Facultate Theologica. He was chairman of the Theology Department at the College of the Holy Cross from 1949 to 1958. He was with the Industrial Relations School from 1952 to 1956. In 1951 he served as the Director of the Institute on Religion. He died on March 12, 1981 in Worcester, Massachusetts.
