English: John Murray was a iron barque and built with the name Loch Ryan by J&G Thomson, Glasgow, Yard No 150 for the General Shipping Co. Glasgow (Loch Line). 1909/10 sold to Government of Victoria, Melbourne for use as a training ship (converted for training purposes at Williamstown and renamed John Murray after the then Premier). In 1917 sold to the Commonwealth Government and returned to commercial service. John Murray was wrecked in 1918 on Malden Island in the Pacific Ocean returning from her first voyage to San Francisco.[1][2][3][4]
