  • Established by Hernan Cortés in his last will, which stated he wanted the hospital to be built for the sons of the Aztec warriors, not Spanish soldiers.
  • Founded in 1524, with construction of the entire original hospital, church, and courtyards complex completed in 1665. A Modernist facade was added to the hospital building c.1950s.
