English: Hinemoa was a four-masted steel barque built in 1890 by Russell & Co., Greenock (yard No 243) for J. Leslie, Glasgow. 1908 stranded near Lorne Jetty, Australia, but got off without any major damage. 1904 sold to Liverpool owners and 1917 sunk on voyage from Australia to Great Britain by a German submarine 35 miles WSW of Bishop Rock.
Dimensions: length × beam × depth = 278.1 × 41.8 × 24.2 ft (84.7 × 12.7 × 7.3 m) and and tonnage: 2283 GRT and 2203 NRT. Rigged with jubilee-rigged, i.e. rigged with nothing above double top and topgallant sails. The first sailing ship equipped with freezing-machinery for transport of mutton from New Zealand. This machinery was later removed. [1][2]
