The Herbst School, built in 1858, known earlier as the Ninth Ward School, was renamed in 1911 for Dr. Henry Herbert Herbst, one-time mayor of Allentown. The building was located at 5th and Chew Streets, was sold to Sacred Heart Hospital in the mid 1970s.
