English: Herbert Lundgren (1882?-1898?) was the lover of Swedish baron Carl von Platen (1863-1929), who travelled with him to Taormina in the spring of 1898, where Lundgren posed for Gloeden. Lundgren died of tuberculosis in Italy on the way back to Sweden. While investigating on the cause of his death, the Police found out the relationship between him and Platen, and charged the latter (homosexuality was illegal in Sweden). Platen's family "saved" him by having him declared partially insane (as an "invert") and having him sent to an asylum for a while. This information comes from: Göran Söderström, "Carl von Platen". In: Fredrick Silverstolpe et all, Sympatiens hemlighetsfulla makt - Stockholms homosexuella 1860-1960, Stockholmia förlag, Stoccolma 1999, pp. 332-356.
