The firm began in 1859 as Heimbach & Helfrich, composed of Benjamin Heimbach and Solomon Helfrich. The company went though many name changes over the years, as the partners and owners changed:

Helfrich & Bohner 1902-1920
H E Bohner 1920-Feb 1922. Bohner closed the business in 1922 and took over Penn House Furniture. In 1924 he joined the J.B. Van Sciver Co.

During its lifetime, the store supplied furnishings to the Lehigh Valley Transit company for both its urban streetcars as well as its interurban Liberty Bell Line to Philadelphia. It also was a sponsor for the Great Allentown Fair. In 1916, Harvey E Bohner bought out his partner, M.A. Helfrich, but retained the business name. Bohner died in October 1930 at sge 59.

Harvey Edward Bohner was born in 1870 near Harrisburg, PA. He was the son of Rev Benjamin and Catherine (Kistler) Bohner. He went to public school in Bethlehem and in 1888 he entered the Allentown Business College in Allentown. He graduated in 1890 and was employed by the F. Hersh Hardware Company in Allentown as a bookkeeper. He then worked for the C.A. Dorney Furnature Company as Head Bookkeeper.

His wife, Salome R Bohner (nee Roth) was born in 1870 in Allentown. She was the daughter of Samnuel and Cecilla Roth. They were married on 1 December 1983. She died in 1955. The only child, Marjorie E Bohner, died in 1917 at age 24 and was unmarried. All are buried in Fairview Cemetery in Allentown.
